Abstract
The reactions of sodium oxide with iron and its oxides are studied at 500–600 °C. Under pressures of sodium vapour close to saturation, a double oxide FeO(Na2O)2 is formed. The standard enthalpy of combination of this compound from its constituent oxides is found by solution calorimetry: ΔH°298=–25·07 ± 0·55 kcal mol–1(–104·9 ± 2·3 kJ mol–1).Keywords
