H2and H production in collisions of 5- to 30-keVH2+ions with xenon gas

Abstract
Cross sections for H2 production (nondissociative charge transfer) from 5- to 30-keV H2+ collisions with xenon are reported. The measurements were made using a thin-window proportional counter as a particle detector. Using these and other available measurements, we determined the cross section for total dissociation and that for H-atom production. We show that H2+ → H + H is the dominant dissociation process.
