Abstract
IN 1997 THE NHS Executive announced funding for a series of sentinel audit projects; sentinel because the topics were to be of importance to the NHS. The project bids were to highlight the clinical significance of the topic and show how organisations would work in partnership to address the issue under review. Here was the chance to develop a model for a national clinical audit project, which enabled clinical staff to develop practice locally.
