Abstract
Unbalanced growth leading to death was shown to occur with the inositol requiring yeasts Saccharomyces carlsbergensis and Kloeckera apiculata when they were incubated in a medium lacking inositol but otherwise complete. This death was ac- companied by the loss of cytochromes and nucleotide coenzymes. It was suggested that the basic biochemical lesion involved is one affecting the structure of cytoplasmic granules. Keywords
