Abstract
IN acute glomerulonephritis the systemic manifestations of hypertension, edema and congestive heart failure result, in large part, from salt and water retention whereas hematuria and proteinuria are direct expressions of the inflammatory process in the glomeruli. The severity of these separate manifestations and the consequent clinical picture may differ widely in individual patients. Hematuria and proteinuria, however, are present more consistently than any other finding, and before the availability of the renal-biopsy technic, the diagnosis of acute nephritis was considered unwarranted unless hematuria was demonstrated.1 It is therefore of interest to present 2 biopsy-proved cases of acute glomerulonephritis in which . . .
