Abstract
K+ balance was followed in 7 hypertensive patients during treatment with timolol. The patients developed a mean 150 mmol total K+ loss. Serum K+ and body weight were not changed. Changes in total body K+ during timolol treatment may be due to K+ mobilization from the intracellular space, but since serum K+ did not rise, timolol may also influence renal handling of K+.
