Abstract
The elastic scattering of alpha particles and deuterons by heavy nuclei is calculated approximately using a classical approach. Rough agreement with the available alpha particle data is obtained with a ratio of interaction radius to mean free path near the center of the nucleus of about 3 to 4 and a () edge-diffuseness distance of 1× cm. Interpretation of the available deuteron data is somewhat uncertain at present.
