Abstract
A series of finite-element analyses have been carried out on lap joints between similar materials and between two materials with Young's moduli in the ratio 3:1. The main objectives of the work were to determine the influence of the ratio between the overlap distance and the plate thickness on the stress concentrations at the ends of the plates, and to examine the influence of tapering the ends of the plates. In the course of the work, comparisons were made between various loading conditions. Keywords
