Abstract
Each of the two galactoses in ganglioside GII has sialic (N-acetylneuraminic) acid in the 3-position. In the isomeric ganglioside GIII, which binds the tetanus toxin much more firmly, the two sialic acids are bonded directly to each other. The ganglioside GIV combines the structural principles of GII and GIII.Keywords
