Abstract
The effects of indole, taurocholate and deoxycholate have been investigated in relation to glucose transport and vitamin B12 uptake, using the everted sac technique. Deoxycholate inhibited glucose uptake but indole did not have this effect. Deoxycholate also inhibited vitamin B12 uptake. Indole in a concentration of 10-3 M/l increased the uptake of vitamin B12. At a concentration of 10-2 M, vitamin B12 absorption was further increased. The histological destruction of the villi in the sacs at the end of the incubation period showed no relationship to the degree of inhibition of transport or uptake. Keywords
