Abstract
An experimentally based scaling law for the contoured length of engineering surfaces is presented. The contoured length between two points on the surface, normalized by the straight-line distance, is expressed as a function of the length of the measuring unit with two parameters. One parameter is quite universal while the other is surface specific.
