Abstract
Toxic manifestations involving the gastrointestinal tract and bone marrow were almost universally observed and often reached serious proportions following the first course of therapy. Five patients achieved an objective response of 7 months or longer, and six experienced a subjective response of 5 months or longer. It is suggested that subjective responses are as valuable as objective responses, since the purpose of chemotherapy in patients with far-advanced cancer of the breast is palliation rather than cure. Approximately 50% of patients treated can expect to be benefited.
