A statistically significant association of the leukocyte antigens HL-A5 or W5 (which is included in HL-A5) and Hodgkin’s disease was confirmed. In addition, this study suggests that this association may extend to other types of lymphomas as well. Individuals with the leukocyte antigen HL-A5 (or W5) on their tissue cells may have an increased tendency to develop one or another type of lymphoma. Whether this is on the basis of a genetic or viral component, or both, remains unknown.
