Abstract
SummaryIn clinopyroxene-melt systems the distribution of chromium and vanadium ions departs from the general pattern of element partition as a function of ionic radius. These departures may be explained by crystal-field effects. Melt structure and the nature of the coordination of cations in the melt also help to determine the pattern of distribution and the extent of the departures from regularity.
