Improving Efficiency of Branch Station Research

Abstract
The need for field-oriented, adaptive research will continue, but funding for such research is shrinking. It is therefore important to maximize the efficiency of each research dollar. Solutions will vary from state to state because of differences in administrative structure, budgeting processes, and political realities; but these solutions will include new sources of funding and changes in organizational structure, expectations of scientists, research design, and program reviews.
