Abstract
Two pseudophyllidean cestodes are descr. from Phoca barbata, one from Eumetopias jubata, and 2 from Callorhinus ursinus. The specimens from C. ursinus, reported by Stiles and Hassall as Bothriocephalus sp., are identical with one of the sp. from that host descr, in the present paper. The 4 spp. are descr. but not named, since it has been impossible to determine whether or not they are identical with previously descr. spp. Probably certain, if not all, of the 4 spp. have been studied by earlier authors, but their descrs. are so incomplete and inadequate that their spp. can not be recognized with certainty. Several of the 33 previously named spp. are of doubtful validity, but from existing descrs. it is impossible to determine which of the names are to be suppressed in synonymy. Moreover, these 33 spp. have been assigned to 9 different genera, but the generic concepts are so indefinite and their limits so poorly defined that there is no agreement concerning either the number of valid spp. or the generic groups to which they should be allocated. The taxono-mic problems are discussed but lack of precise information precludes final decisions. Keywords
