Abstract
The present study examined the hypothesis that the strength of one's belief system is an important determinant in fear of death. Individuals (120 males and 200 females, aged 17 to 44 yr.) who defined themselves as either high or low in self-perceived religiosity exhibited less death anxiety than individuals in the medium range. Increased perceptions of control and predictability are offered as an explanation. Keywords
