Abstract
ACUTE infectious lymphocytosis, a clinical entity featured by a benign relative and absolute increase in the number of small mature lymphocytes, was first described in 1941 by Smith.1 He presented 2 cases of this disease and expressed the opinion that the group of patients reported by Reyersbach and Lenert2 and 1 case described by Wilson and Cunningham3 belonged in this classification rather than among the cases of infectious mononucleosis, as reported. There were no significant clinical signs or symptoms in any of these cases.
