Abstract
We give the quantum-mechanical formulation of a model which predicts the onset of a spatial dissipative structure in a nonlinear optical system. In the case of roll patterns, we show that the two signal beams which constitute the pattern are correlated twin beams, i.e., their intensity difference exhibits fluctuations below the standard quantum limit. Keywords
