Abstract
Research on the impact of student characteristics on the quality of the teacher-student interaction was investigated in an ecological setting. Ss for the study were classrooms and teachers at the kindergarten, fourth, and seventh-grade levels. Ratings of teacher-student interactions were analyzed as a function of the characteristics of the child. Analysis of the data suggested that physical characteristics of the child had a more potent influence on the teacher-student interaction during the first week of the school year. Keywords
