Abstract
A long term follow-up of 300 patients treated by bilateral adrenalectomy for advanced breast cancer is presented. The notable features are the lengthy remissions and survival times which occurred in some patients. At least 2 important biological subsets were identified within the general population of breast cancers. Of the responders, 11% were still in remisson at 4 yr and 10% were alive at 10 yr. Responders also enjoyed a good quality of life. These results are of considerable importance in assessing the relative merits of newer methods of treatment. Keywords
