Phaethornis koepckeae, a New Species of Hummingbird from Peru

Abstract

P. koepckeae sp. nov. was reported from a mountainous area of eastern Peru between Rio Pachitea and Rio Ucayali, and in the Maranon Valley of northern Peru. Its ecological and systematic relationships are compared with those of P. bourcieri and P. philippii. These are closely allied but they are distinct species which have evolved different elevational and habitat requirements.
