Abstract
Although ankylosing spondylitis is a common disease, it often goes unrecognized for many years. Early diagnosis, education of the patient, and adherence to a carefully planned program of treatment will prevent much of the deformity that may otherwise result. Employability and economic independence can be maintained by the vast majority of patients. Keywords
