Abstract
Crossed ion neutral beam techniques have been employed to investigate the reactions C++CO2→CO++CO, O++CO2→O+CO+2, and O++CO2→ O+2+CO. Cross sections for the first reaction have been obtained in the ion energy range from 0.5–25 eV, while for the second process the range of measurement was 0.5–500 eV. Signals attributed to the third reaction could only be detected at ion energies less than 0.5 eV. Both ion–molecule reactions exhibit an energy dependence which falls off with increasing interaction energy faster than the 1/v dependence often found for such processes. The charge transfer process, which is endothermic by approximately 0.15 eV, is observed to have a finite cross section at the lowest ion energy employed. Keywords
