Abstract
This study investigates the relationship between the amount of learning which occurs in children during normal home television viewing and the presence of parental interaction during viewing situations. It was found that when parents interacted with their child about the content of prime time TV programs, incidental learning from television was significantly enhanced. In addition, television was found to be a significant source of information about social roles for which children have no real‐life knowledge. Keywords
