Hysteresis in Polymers and its Relation to Strength

Abstract
Energy density to break measurements on a number of polymers, either partly swollen or dry, reveal that there is a simple relationship between the energy density to break and the hysteresis obtained in the first stress strain cycle taken very near to break. The hysteresis at break was varied by changing the temperature of test or by swelling the polymer.
