DEPRESSED TUBERCULIN SENSITIVITY IN DARIER'S DISEASE

Abstract
To the Editor.— In a previous letter (Arch Derm103:564-565, 1971) I wrote that tuberculin sensitivity was depressed in 86% (30 out of 35) of the patients with porokeratosis of Mibelli. As is generally known, there exist many clinical and histopathological similarities between porokeratosis and Darier's disease (keratosis follicularis). The present study extends this observation to Darier's disease. In the literature of Japan 178 reported cases of Darier's disease were collected. Tuberculin reactions (Pirquet's, or Mantoux's, or both) were mentioned in 23 cases (17 males and 6 females). Of these, the reactions were positive in 4 cases, weakly positive in 2, and negative in 17 (Table). Consequently, 83% (19 out of 23) of the patients tested revealed depressed tuberculin sensitivity in Darier's disease. In 1908 Pirquet first observed the depression of tuberculin reactivity during measles, and then many workers have shown that several other viral infections depressed the reaction.This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
