Abstract
Nottingham is no different from any other city in relation to sexually related risks in young people. In 1985, over five per cent of young women aged 14-19 had unplanned pregnancies. In 1987, there were 785 abortions in this age group. The rates of sexually transmitted disease are high, with nearly 1,300 young people attending the genito-urinary medicine department clinic in 1988-1989, of whom 26 were under 14 years old. Ac the health authority teenage clinic the rate of abnormal cervical smear tests was 11 per cent in 1988-1989. We have no HIV/ AIDS statistics for this age group yet, but trends from the United States indicate that young people are at risk, if not greatest risk. Keywords
