Abstract
Pachytene chromosomes of a diploid Medicago sativa L. were used to construct an idiogram showing chromosome lengths, arm ratios and chromomere distribution. The eight chromosomes were readily distinguished on these bases, although all conformed to one pattern having a knob at one end and the majority of prominent chromomeres surrounding the centromere. The nucleolar organizing chromosome contained more heterochromatic segments than the chromosomes of the rest of the complement. The idiogram was compared with that of a dihaploid M. sativa. Keywords
