Abstract
Electron microscopic studies were made of the mouse kidney 35, 90, and 150 days after irradiation (450 rads) on day of birth. The principal changes consisted in an initial increase in cel-lularity of the mesangium, followed by an increase in mesangial matrix, and progressive thickening of the basement membranes of the glomeru-lus. I n late stages, collagen appeared in the thickened mesangial matrix and in the inner layers of the basement membranes. Deposition of electron-dense amorphous material occurred in the inner portion of the basement membrane and in the matrix. The significance of these changes is discussed.
