Abstract

3-Acetyl-2,5,6,7-tetrahydroxy-1,4-naphthoquinone has been isolated from the spines and test of the echinoid Salmacis sphaeroides (Loven). Its structure has been determined by mass and p.m.r. spectral evidence and hydrolysis to 2,5,6,7-tetra-hydroxy-1,4-naphthoquinone.
