Dionysius of Halicarnassus: A reappraisal

Abstract
An accurate characterization of any rhetorician should consider both the rhetorical practices and the theoretical writings. An analysis of the logography of Dionysius of Halicarnassus indicates that he thought of orations as practical instruments and that the judgment that he was disinterested in persuasion is untenable.
