Abstract
This paper examines a number of conceptual problems underlying attempts to initiate classroom programmes designed to teach the social skills of friendship to children in need. Current methods used to identify those children considered to be in need, to select appropriate behaviours to be taught, and to initiate effective training procedures are examined. It suggests ways and means of increasing the effectiveness of classroom social skills training programmes. Keywords
