Abstract
The functional implications of the presence of Ag in the CNS are not known. Since Ag is present in the environment and since systemic Ag poisoning leads to intraneuronal accumulations of the metal, the possible effects of Ag on the open field behavior of mice was evaluated. Argyric mice were compared with controls in 3 experiments, 1 including long term administration of 0.015% AgNO3 in the drinking water and 2 in which the reactions of male and female mice to shock doses of silver lactate were studied. In all experiments the Ag-treated mice were hypoactive. This hypoactivity was probably due to an influence of Ag on the functional status of the CNS.Keywords
