Abstract
An apparatus for measuring the density dependence of the depolarization ratio for Ar, Kr, CH4, SF6, and C(CH3)4 at pressures around 1 atm is described. The results are compared to theoretical values based on DID theory and to results of other experimental techniques for investigating collision‐induced light scattering. The discrepancy between theory and experiment for the large molecules provides further evidence of the inadequacy of the point‐dipole approximation of DID theory. Keywords
