Abstract
It has been argued that high frequencies of commensal animals in archaeological deposits may be correlated with sedentism. However, the effects of taphonomic processes, and the evidence of ethology and ethnography, make this linkage hazardous. Consequently high frequencies of commensal animals may not be correlated with sedentism. Keywords
