Abstract
The neuropathologic findings and clinical course of 2 cases of fatal CCl4 intoxication are presented. One case exhibited patchy pontine necrosis and demyelination principally in perivascular location. The 2d case exhibited Purkinje cell damage, cerebellar venous thromboses and hemorrhagic infarcts. The variations in pathologic picture and clinical course suggest a number of factors to be in operation to produce the variable neural changes. These include (1) direct neuro-toxic effect, (2) synergistic activity with other compounds, (3) cerebro-vascular involvement, (4) hepatic or renal damage due to the solvent itself, and (5) pre-existing or concomitant cerebral or extracerebral disease. Keywords
