Les espaces de la firme : le cas de Creusot-Loire

Abstract
An example of the business firm and its influence on areal patterns : Creusot-Loire. — In the creation of both geographical and economic areal patterns, the business firm has a dominating role which is only too often ignored. This has been assessed in the case of an important French industrial company, Creusot-Loire. Specializing in steel, metallurgical and mechanical manufacturing throughout France, the firm provides a demonstration of the variable areal structuration of capital accumulation, supplies, factory siting and national and foreign markets. It presents an interesting example of the spatial deviations of centres of production from centres of decision and the consequences of this phenomenon are subsequently analysed.
