Abstract
This report by the ASTM E-19 Committee on Chromatography is an evaluation of a new technique termed the model molecular thermometer. The method permits calibration of the final pyrolysis temperature for PGC users of various experimental units. The objective is to standardize the practice of pyrolysis gas chromatography by use of a new concept, the molecular thermometer. The procedure compensates for errors between the pyrolysis set temperature and the final pyrolysis temperature, based on the ratio of the fragments isoprene to dipentene during the pyrolysis of the copolymer Kraton 1107. The styrene block of this copolymer is used in this study to evaluate the effectiveness of the technique. Keywords
