Abstract
Pavements of flat stones vertically packed on edge occur on platforms cut in slates and shales along the shores of the St. Lawrence Estuary and Lake Saint-Jean (Québec). Large surfaces of the rock platforms are covered with flat stones, which stand nearly vertically and are tightly packed and interlocked. Stones are irregularly arranged or radially and concentrically grouped around several centers or boulders. This unusual disposition and arrangement of flat stones is caused by wave action rather than by periglacial processes as suggested earlier. Keywords
