Abstract
The effects of dietary depletion of Mg in rats resulted in the following observations significant hypomagnesemia, hypercalcemia and modest azotemia accompanied by significant muscle K and Mg depletion. Small but significant K loss as well as unequivocal phosphaturia obtained in examination of the urine. Erythrocyte analysis demonstrated a deficit of Mg accompanied by significant increase in Na content. In vitro study of rat diaphragms exposed to media devoid of Mg resulted in significant lowering of muscle K, confirming the in vivo observations. Keywords
