Abstract
Buds of Pinus sylvestris L. and Picea abies (L.) Karst. were pierced with optical fibres allowing natural light to the vicinity of apical domes. Induction of female strobiles was achieved. Since bud scales absorb more red than far-red light, the treatment may have increased the far-red light absorbing form of phytochrome. Keywords
