Abstract
To the Editor: Markedly elevated levels of the BB isoenzyme fraction of serum creatine kinase (CK-BB; EC 2.7.3.2) were found in three adult patients with osteopetrosis. Patient 1 was a 31-year-old black man who had no other medical problems. Patient 2 was a 68-year-old white man who also had insulin-treated diabetes. Patient 3 was the 75-year-old brother of Patient 2. He also had polycystic kidney disease and long-standing hypertension. In all three patients, x-ray films revealed widespread sclerosis of bone and bone-within-bone lesions of vertebrae — findings consistent with osteopetrosis.1 , 2 Computerized axial tomography (CAT) of the head was normal in . . .Keywords
