Magnetic properties of compositionally modulated Fe/Al films.

Abstract
Fe/Al compositionally modulated multilayer films were prepared in the low argon pressure of 2 mTorr with double target DC magnetron sputtering. Lower argon pressure formed minute grain size films, leading to lower Hc. For constant Al layer thickness of 8 Å, alloy phase at the interfaces of Fe/Al layers has a substantial effect upon apparent measured properties in the lower Fe/Al thickness ratio less than 3, resulting in the decrease of saturation magnetization with the decrease in the Fe/Al thickness ratio; while in the higher Fe/Al thickness ratio, saturation magnetization keeps almost constant. When Fe/Al thickness ratio is around 3, minimum Hc was obtained. Optimum preparation parameters of Fe/Al thickness ratio = 3 and modulation wavelength = 43 Å, exhibited the following properties; Hc=0.625 Oe, Ms= 1285 emu/cm3, ρ=60 μΩ·cm.
