Abstract
This disease occurs in a wide range of presentations—from an essentially benign nonoliguric form to oliguric states that can be lethal despite aggressive therapy. Several pathogenetic mechanisms have been proposed, and all probably make some contribution. Knowledge of the various etiologies of acute renal failure is essential to differential diagnosis, which, in turn, determines appropriate therapy. Keywords
