Abstract
The importance of organic disease causing a secondary hyperventilatory syndrome whose symptoms may obscure those of the primary disease is stressed. This can erroneously result in the diagnosis of neurogenic overventilation. Patients having supraventricular paroxysmal tachycardia, myocardial infarction, hiatus hernia, cholecystitis, spontaneous pneumothorax, esophageal web, dissecting aortic aneurysm and diabetic neuritis are described. The necessity for a carefully detailed history is emphasized. Keywords
