VARIATION IN THE DURATION OF TUBERCULIN SKIN SENSITIVITY PRODUCED BY 2 STRAINS OF BCG

Abstract
Two BCG vaccines prepared in two different laboratories with equally capable personnel were found to be different in their capacity to maintain induced cutaneous tuberculin sensitivity. Both readily converted subjects but whereas vaccination with one resulted in a sustained effect, vaccination with the other was characterized by rapid loss of tuberculin sensitivity. The divergent results are thought to be related to strain differences in the BCG used in prepn. of the respective vaccines.
