Abstract
Computerized video image analysis of Feulgen-stained paraffin sections was used to assess the relationships of nuclear DNA content and other nuclear morphological characteristics with survival from cutaneous melanoma. The results indicate that nuclear area and deviation from diploidy have effects on survival independent of tumor thickness and the age of the patient. Tumor thickness, however, remained the most important predictor of survival. Video image analysis of tissue sections, by virtue of its speed, simplicity, and accuracy, appears to be a potentially valuable prognostic method. Keywords
