Induction of implantation by androgens in mice with delayed implantation

Abstract
Testosterone [T] and 5.alpha.-dihydrotestosterone (5.alpha.-DHT) were able to mimic the action of estradiol-17.beta. in initiating implantation in ovariectomized, progesterone-treated mice. Cyproterone acetate and CI-628 [.alpha.-(4-pyrrolidinoethoxy)phenyl-4-methoxy-.alpha.''-nitrostilbene monocitrate] were capable of inhibiting the T-induced response, but CI-628 citrate prevented only the 5.alpha.-DHT-mediated implantation reaction. T may act through T and estrogen receptors while 5.alpha.-DHT acts only through estrogen receptors.
