To the Editor: We have reported findings* in agreement with those of Bartlett and his colleagues in the March 9 issue of the Journal implicating Clostridium difficile as the etiologic agent of pseudomembranous colitis. Our results differ in that we isolated multiple strains of Cl. difficile from the feces of patients, many of which were sensitive to clindamycin, probably because of our policy of avoiding the use of clindamycin in the isolation medium. Strains were differentiated on the basis of variations in the pattern of biochemical reactions and antibiotic susceptibility. Twenty-seven strains were isolated from eight patients, of which 10 . . .Keywords
